David Law Named Next Minnetonka Schools Superintendent

Minnetonka Public Schools leadership is pleased to announce it extended an offer to Mr. David Law to become the next superintendent of the Minnetonka Public School District. Law has accepted, and pending contract negotiations, he will begin his new role with Minnetonka Schools on July 1, 2022.

Law brings more than 37 years of experience in K-12 education to the role. He is currently in his eighth year as superintendent for the Anoka-Hennepin School District, the largest district in the state of Minnesota, with a student population of 38,000. Prior to that, he was the assistant superintendent in the White Bear Lake School District for seven years. He also has experience as an assistant principal in Anoka-Hennepin for seven years and as the dean of students for Moundsview School District for two years. He has served as adjunct professor at Bethel University and at the University of Minnesota, and he began his career as a math teacher in the Anoka-Hennepin School District.

Chris Vitale, Chair of the Minnetonka School Board, said, “We are thrilled that David Law will be taking the helm here at Minnetonka Schools. He is an experienced, proven leader who we believe will help us to harness and preserve the focus on child-centered excellence across our school system and at the same time will infuse new energy into all we do as a district.”

Coming off what he feels is a wonderful experience in Anoka-Hennepin, Law said he sees this as an exciting opportunity to work in a community that is renowned for excellence and to continue that amazing legacy of innovation and of exceptional, personalized education for all students.

Highlights of Law’s time in Anoka-Hennepin include a steady increase in graduation rates, an increase in the number of schools performing in the top quartile in Minnesota in math, reading and science, two National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, a National School Board Association Magna Award-winning School and several Magnet Schools of America schools of excellence and distinction.

Law was 2020 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year and 2020 President of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators. He is currently a governing-board member and executive board member for the American Association of School Administrators. He was named Minnesota Technology Educators Central Office Administrator of the Year in 2017 and was White Bear Lake YMCA Board Member of the Year in 2014.

Law earned his BA from Hamline University, his JD from William Mitchell College of Law and his Minnesota K-12 Principal Licensure and Superintendent Licensure from the University of Minnesota. He currently resides in Andover with his wife and children.

Minnetonka Immersion Students, Teachers and Families Celebrate Chinese New Year

Students from Excelsior Elementary, Scenic Heights Elementary, MME, MMW and MHS welcomed the Year of the Dragon with a Chinese New Year celebration. The evening featured performances from different classes and grade levels, Chinese food from local restaurants and activity booths ranging from mahjong and badminton to trivia, crafting, bingo and a photo booth.

“Getting to perform 'My Swingin' Sunshine' at the District Jazz Festival made my musical aspirations more real than I ever thought they would get,” said Anna Golikova '28, who composed the piece this summer. “It was absolutely phenomenal. I couldn't compare the pride and exhilaration to anything I'd ever felt before."
